If you followed the first guide in this path, you have successfully set up your free Blogspot site. But if you want to build a truly professional digital platform, you need to ditch the .blogspot.com extension.
Purchasing and connecting a custom domain like www.PassiveVisuals.com is the single most important step you can take to build brand authority and rank higher in Google search results.
Connecting a domain requires tweaking some backend settings called DNS records. It sounds intimidating, but if you follow these exact steps, you will have your new custom URL running in no time.
Step 1: Choose the Perfect Domain Name
Before you buy anything, you need to decide on your brand's official web address. Your domain name is your digital first impression, so it needs to be memorable, professional, and relevant to your niche.
Keep these golden rules in mind when brainstorming:
- Make it Relevant and Brandable: Your domain should give people an immediate idea of what your site is about. For instance, passivevisuals.com clearly signals a site focused on visual assets and income. If you were building a platform for an off-road electric motorcycle group or a digital mapping portfolio, you would want names that instantly communicate that focus (like trailmappers.com or voltageriders.com).
- Prioritize the .com Extension: While there are hundreds of new extensions available (like .net, .co, or .io), a .com domain remains the gold standard. It is the most trusted by users and the easiest for people to remember.
- Pass the "Radio Test": If you heard your domain name spoken out loud on the radio or a podcast, would you know exactly how to spell it? Avoid using complex words, unusual spellings, or words that sound similar but are spelled differently (like "there" and "their").
- Avoid Numbers and Hyphens: Hyphens look like spam to search engines, and numbers confuse people (did you mean passivevisuals2.com or passivevisualstwo.com?). Keep it to letters only.
- Keep it Short: The shorter the domain, the easier it is to type, share, and fit onto a business card. Aim for 15 characters or less if possible.
Step 2: Purchase Your Domain Name

Step 3: Trigger the Blogger CNAME Error
Google needs you to prove that you actually own the domain you just bought. To do this, we need Blogger to generate specific security codes for us.
- Log in to your Blogger dashboard and click on Settings in the left-hand menu.
- Scroll down to the "Publishing" section and click Custom domain.
- Enter your new domain name, making sure to include the "www" prefix (for example www.YourDomainName.com).
- Click Save.
- You will immediately see an error message displaying two sets of codes called CNAME records. Do not panic! This is exactly what we want to happen.

Leave this Blogger tab open and move on to Step 4.
Step 4: Configure Your DNS Records
Now it is time to copy the codes Blogger gave you and paste them into your domain registrar's settings.
Navigate to your domain provider's website and locate your DNS Settings (sometimes labeled as Advanced DNS, DNS Management, or Host Records).
The 2 CNAME Records
You need to create two new CNAME records to verify ownership:
- First CNAME: Enter www as the Name (or Host) and ghs.google.com as the Destination (or Target).
- Second CNAME: Look at the red error message in your Blogger tab. Create a second CNAME record using the unique, shorter string of characters Blogger provided as the Name, and the longer string ending in .googlehosted.com as the Destination. (Note: This second code is entirely unique to your specific Google account).
The 4 A-Records (Naked Domain Redirect)
If a reader types passivevisuals.com without the www in front of it, they might get an error page. To fix this, you need to create a "naked redirect" by adding four separate A-Records that point directly to Google's server IP addresses.
Create four new A-Records using @ (or your blank root domain) as the Host/Name, and point them to these exact IP addresses:

(Note: If your registrar already has default A-Records set up, delete them before adding these four Google IPs).
Step 5: Save Your Blogger Custom Domain and Enable Free SSL (HTTPS)
After adding your DNS records, you need to finalize the setup in your Blogger dashboard. Please note: DNS propagation does not happen instantly. It typically takes 15 to 60 minutes (and occasionally up to 24 hours) for the new records to activate across the internet. Take a quick break, then follow these final steps.
1. Save Your Custom Domain
Go back to your open Blogger tab and click Save on the Custom Domain popup again. If you entered the DNS records correctly and enough time has passed, the error message will disappear, and your new domain will be saved.
2. Enable Domain Redirect
In your Blogger Settings menu, under the Publishing section, toggle on Redirect domain. This is a crucial SEO step that ensures visitors who type your naked URL (e.g., yourdomain.com) are automatically forwarded to the correct "www" version (e.g., [www.yourdomain.com](https://www.yourdomain.com)).

3. Turn on HTTPS Availability
Scroll down slightly to the HTTPS section and toggle on HTTPS availability. Directly underneath, check the HTTPS availability status.
- If it says "Pending": This is completely normal! Google is working behind the scenes to generate your free SSL certificate. You must wait for this status to change to "Available" (this usually takes 15 minutes to a few hours; refresh the page occasionally).
- Important: Do not turn on the next setting until the status updates.
4. Enable HTTPS Redirect
Once the status says "Available", toggle on HTTPS redirect. This final step ensures all your visitors are automatically routed to the secure version of your site, giving them that crucial padlock icon in their browser bar—another important signal for Google search rankings.
Congratulations! Your platform is now professional, branded, and ready for traffic.
